30/04/2016

Today I was fully motivated as I had come up with an idea that might work for a final major project. I used all of the first impression and first response I made at St. Pancras and made them into two different characters. What was lucky is that I had made first impressions of three women and three men so I made up two different characters I called Patch and Tilly. I intend to present these characters in a scenario that can conjure a first impression and give them a story that isn't suppose to go hand in hand with the first impression people are going to get. How I am going to present this I need to figure out but I believe this is a great start to something.

29/04/2016

I had made a separate time table for the final weeks I have left on the final major project, and wrote out what I will do for the first week. I also prepared a journal where I will write how well the project or experimentation is going while I'm doing it.

28/04/2016

Today I decided to do the same sort of thing I did on Tuesday (26/04/2016) only this time in the same style as the artist Lucinda Rogers.
Example of Lucinda Rogers:

The group was allowed to go into the print room again so I decided to start with a card broad print and cut out certain areas that I want to be coloured in, as well as the shape of the piano. I had already drawn out the stairs in the station again without the piano on A3 and the conclusion was reasonable to say the least.

26/04/2016

Today I did my first successful draft of one first impression. To conclude I don't find this producing a good idea for a final outcome but never the less it made me use ink by painting the lines from a long distance and use a slight David Shrigley style on the characters I have drawn expression their emotions. The reason I don't find that this works is because I don't find it clear what the piece is about, or how the first impressions are supposed to be received.

25/04/2016

Today a pushed myself to start making some plans and really get into my project. I started by making a sheet describing what every piece of paper I had mean and what emotions they expressed. I all so decided what ink patterns we made on 19/04/2016, by selecting certain ones that also conveyed some sort of emotion. I have redecorated my desk giving me a stronger direction of where to go.

21/04/2016

Today I mixed up between doing what I wanted to do and producing four prints for Shirley. I wanted to start on a first draft of the St. Pancras first impression but eventually had to work with the printing press and thus developed three different prints based on the shape of the stairs where the piano that was played played under.

20/04/2016

Today before going to work, I made some preparations for my plan on Thursday. The plan is to recreate the scene at the station on Sunday (17/04/2016), using a David Shrigley style to explain the different first impressions I collected. I made to good plans now let's see how well it goes tomorrow.

19/04/2016

Today Kerry released we weren't to motivated enough, so the class started a new activity. It mostly involved ink and the different ways of using it. I admit by the end of the day I was more motivated and made up a big plan that I intend to properly execute on Thursday.

18/04/2016

Back to college and sadly still not much progress. I started off by finishing my sketchbooks off after the London trip and then decided to practice some ideas and emotions in the style of David Shrigley.

17/04/2016

I went to look at the Avedon Warhol exhibition in the Gagosian gallery before I took the train back home to Sheffield but it was closed. That sucks. However it did give me more time to develop a new way of capturing first impressions, that I thought of on Friday (15/04/2016). I first had a bit of trouble because I did not know what to expect as I watch the people go by. Until a couple decided to play the piano in the station. This attracted the eyes of many people so I decided to study the reaction of each passing resident. I got some great results and believe that it should be a large start to my project.

16/04/2016

Today I visited a exhibition called Jerwood space which consisted of two short art films. The one that I found most interesting was about the Japan tsunamis in 2011 that hit a nuclear reactor. The film was told through the eyes of a small fox and I enjoyed the films narrative, it could be helpful if I still decide to do an animation film. Next I visited the Tate Britain. Here I found some good art pieces by some well known artists such as David Hockney, but nothing that I felt passionate to use.

15/04/2016

I went to a David Shrigley exhibition which was incredibly inspirational. The emotions and ideas that he presented in each piece was brilliant, though simple it was exactly what I had an idea of doing for my final major project. Shrigley paints an image and writes a small quote or a single word that some how has a strong connection with the simple image painted. I believe I can do the exact same think with my first impressions.

The second exhibition was one done by Mark Wallinger. Though not as successful as Shrigley, I was intrigued by the ideas and decided to keep some of the research in case I done find that I can use it in my projects. After both exhibitions I went into a coffee shop and though of an idea of how I can capture first impressions the moment they happen. The plan is to observe a public environment for something that I find intriguing and once I do so I draw a line in my sketchbook without looking which indicates how much I was intrigued by it through the frantic movement of the line. I write what I saw next to it and from their I can develop a proper first response.

14/04/2016

Today we went to London, with my group I visited the Wellcome Collection specifically the State of mind exhibition: Tracing the edges of consciousness. Though very interesting I couldn't find any relevants to my main project. Then we visited the House of Illustrations where I listed some comic book artists who interested me. When everyone headed back home I stayed behind to explore some more exhibitions for the weekend.
Artists were:
Rutu Modan

Lynda Barry

Marion Fayolle

The second day wasn't much of an improvement, however with all of the information from the last two days I came up with the possibility of me making a stop motion animation film because it would help me start something going on this project since I already know what has to be done due to my previous experience in animation film making.

11/04/2016

Back at college things got off on a very slow start. The idea on Sunday I had trouble reenacting today, since I partly forgot how I was going to do it. I had a talk with three of my other class companions giving me some ideas of how I can further my project which was worth it, but sadly not a lot of experimentation or progress was made.

10/04/2016

Today I came up with an idea to present my work effectively. It involves noticing something that could create a first impression, then I would write a list of words that would be my first response and with the artists I have chosen I would craft an image in the style of that chosen artist.

Final Major Project :()

Final Major Project :()

My final major project is about first impressions specifically those that accure on a daily basis, for example something that suddenly catches your eye while you walk to work for instance. How I want to present this still needs to develop but I intend to do so through the studying different artists and practicing of different media.
