07/06/2016

I've started today by adding some details to the go and super ego frames. My intention is to get both finished today which will involve coming up with other textures to add onto it. I came up with an idea of adding details like shopping malls in the background.
I have made a plan to briefly go outside to draw and study the sides of some shops in my neighbourhood to use in my piece, as well as collect one more first impression for the super ego frame and look for hinges to be able to make my shutters open and close.

My brief tripe outdoors was a success, in fact it got me thinking about the use of more colour in these pictures but very specific ones. Particularly in the super ego frame I was thinking of using a dark colour palette so that the bright colours coming from the figures stand out more, it can also give more depth to the id, ego and super ego theory, possibly though. I have started looking for some colour palette's but I'm not sure how I will be able to get most of the colours at this moment.
I am proud with what I have done with my new idea. After researching different dark colour palette, I was able to colour in a few large areas of my piece. Now the colours I will use for my figures should work well with the the dull colours of the background.

I have finished colouring the details of the ego frame making it look brighter and establish the first impressions more. The super ego frame I have also finished as the characters are also cut in, coloured in and have their own speech bubble describing there predicament.

Hinges attached my piece is done.

Today I wasn't certain what was going to happen. I came into college to see what the situation was and only got to develop some small pieces and characters designs for the last frame or the super ego frame of the shutters involving the research I made of looking at people and writing done my first impression of them.

I came up with the idea of adding a speech bubble to each figure which describes what a first impression could be of them first speech bubbles like.

I've started today contemplating what to do with my middle frame of the shutters. This includes possibly adding either collage or certain colours to it instead of just ink before I cut in the different characters.
I'm uncertain how I am going to tackle this piece as I'm afraid that I I might add the collage it might seem cluttered but it'll possibly be to late to change anything.
Not a lot of confident progress has been made, however I have come up with the idea to draw the characters in the broad before anything else to give me an stronger idea of the look since I do know how I am going to draw them.
I've stuck the four sheets of A3 on to the mounting board, after I had cut all of the figures in.

02/06/2016

I decided that today I want to fully complete the Id side of the shutter using ink and collage. I am now practicing to draw the individuals from tinder in a kind of Saul Bass style which will define the shapes of all of the collage papers I will use.
I have successfully made six collage's of the individuals from tinder and will now place them on the Id's frame.

Once I placed mu collage heads on to the brick patterned background, I thought that the seemed a bit hidden in the image. I wondered if I should had wither coloured the wall in or add a different texture to it.
But I put that worry aside and decided just to go for it and make the piece. So I had done, the first side or the Id side of the shutter was completed.

For the second frame or the middle frame or the Ego frame, I decided to set up the plan for it that will present most of the line studies I made of people in the train station. The middle frame will be of the train station daily as that is the setting U have mostly been practicing with.

01/06/2016

I have just brought Tinder from the app store and am now readying my mini sketch book for writing down as many first impressions as I can, possibly get so that I have a lot to work with. I do need to think about how I am going to do this. I need to find an effective method of trying to get my first impressions of the people.
I have started to make line studies of the individuals that have come up while scrolling through their photos.
I have successfully been able to collect a good amount of information from tinder.
I am now making some Sual Bass styled drawings of the girls with ink while thinking of the presentation. While doing so I eventually got a bit stuck as well as briefly losing my motive to make.

I have made the idea of researching a certain internet social system that is mostly based on first impressions to present in The Id category of my shutters piece.
Tinder the social dating app which is mostly scrolling through different profiles of individuals having on short glance at them and immediately deciding if you want to meet them or not. I find the Id mostly defines this point as there isn't a huge need of understanding your surroundings.

30/05/2016

I started today with uncertainty as I wasn't completely sure hoe I was going to present my final outcome. So far my outcome has been vague as I don't feel like the pieces I've made are good enough.
I have brought three pieces of mounting board and have come up with a possible idea of presenting my piece as a shutters piece influence by Jheronimus Bosch. I do find that I should connect it to my previous work to show that I have developed something.
So far everything is going great, the two methods I invented to collect a first impression I have decided to connect to Sigmund Freud's Id, Ego and Super Ego theory which will help me present my three pieces in the shutters I am now certain to make more effectively.

29/05/2016

I have found the perfect material to present my pieces on. I have the idea to cut my figures into the board and paint the shapes. This'll be my first practice.
So far I have mostly been debating how I am going to present my final pieces out what other final first impression I need to get.
I have practices with different mediums on my new mounting board.
I have decided to make my panoramas out off three sheets of A3 instead of four due to cots and time.

28/05/2016

I wanted to design all of the characters for first panorama piece. It has been decided that I am going to make at least 3 different panorama pieces each one displaying a different first impression.
The design are rough some changes might have to be made. They also don't have the colour aspect with them (Influence from David Shrigley).

26/05/2016

Half term is getting closer, so far I have cleared up my desk, and plan to ship all of my work to mu house for the holiday. I've started to think of two other methods of collecting and presenting first impressions since my other two seem to work effectively.

I had another look at the mind map I made and a small idea emerge for collecting first impressions involving looking at the face of any commoner. From here I could possibly study their ethnic background, current state and even personality. Again it's a first impression I might be completely wrong from my first response.

I have planned out a good chunk of my half term, now I'm in the library looking for some more artists to follow.

24/05/2016

I began to put my plan I had on Monday (23/05/2016) into action. The plan is to write down and draw any local person and what I think of them. So far I have draw four different people.

I have practice with two so far and am starting to think how I am going to present this idea, thoughts of making a similar panorama piece is coming back and I'm starting to think about what artist I should follow for this piece.
During my different practices of this new idea I got a bit lost about how I wanted to go about this new idea I have.

I have painted a new simple idea of the woman in green (one of the people I saw). There are no limbs mainly because the coat and leather bag were the only things that stood out to me when I saw her. The text in the image I suppose could be wither influences by Saul bass or David Fullerton, however I might need to look for another artist.

My mentor looked at me of my previous works and described a method of making a sheet of collage and cut out my figures. i want to do this with my newly draw figures from this morning.

23/05/2016

I've started today with a clear open mind, I need to think either of something else or stick with the one plan I originally have.
I wanted to make another practice piece instead of the leaflet givers first impression I came across on Friday (06/05/2016) without using any print making. There is a possibility that I might have several different panoramas similar to the first one I have for my final outcome.
I continued an unfinished mind map and have come up with a new method of collecting first impressions which is also a lot easier to research.
I have mostly been thinking about what I should do next.

19/05/2016

Like the first two days I can't come up with much of a plan until I entered the studio. I wanted to redo or make another print of the street performers impression following my panorama idea.
I've made the figures now it's time for the test prints.

Sadly though I've just remembered the reflection issue meaning that the characters are facing the other way once they are printed. This makes it hard to place them in their correct positions because there isn't enough space, and they have to be facing the street performers. This has made my piece unfortunately be misshaped and so I rushed the last bit because we were clearing up and I had zero passion to try make anything else out of it.

17/05/2016

Today I did not have any idea to start the day. So the second I came in I decided to sketch that layout of my panorama piece. This involved deciding how each section is going to be constructed together. It started of quite well until I started to lose focus and began to get tired. I needed to remain concentrated and fully prepare this rough layout.

Overall the layout I find is constructed well however I still think some more extra details need to be placed to give it more contrast.

16/05/2016

Today I had the idea of perfecting the design for all of the figures in my piece. I have originally come up with an idea of how one of my pieces will look like. It involves presenting all four previous images of the four impressions I studied in one whole panorama image sticking to only one style. This style I came up with all my previous practices.

Here are the characters I made:

Later though I was running out of inspiration started to briefly draw my characters carelessly.

12/05/2016

I began by drawing out the prints of the lines I made of the leaflet givers first impression. After they were cut and model out of the lino I did several practice prints:

Each character is supposed to represent my first response of them once I look back at the line analysis I made of them. Though not perfect I was able to fit them on my collage background well.

The people printed in Orange are the one's handing out the leaflets the ones in black are the audience and the ones I studied the first impressions of.

11/05/2016

Today I wanted to make preparations for tomorrow in print making. The last first impression I studied of Friday (06/04/2016) I wanted to present it in the same way as the piece I made last Thursday (05/05/2016). This involves being inspired by the same artists Saul Bass and Richard Hamilton. So today I'll make the collage background and tomorrow I will draft what will be printed on it.

10/05/2016

I started the day by finishing the first impression from yesterday (09/05/2016). Like yesterday, for the next first impression I found on Friday (06/05/2016) being of the street performers, I went through the same procedures of writing out a synopsis of the first impression, including the line study I made to ultimately prepare for what my piece will be of, including what artists I want to follow.

I decided to follow Anthony Freda, Olivier Kugler and a little of Richard Hamilton.

I had drawn most of the setting and have decided what part will be in colour and what will be left blank, following he style of Olivier Kugler.
I decided this time not to use any text thinking that the drawn figures, inspired by Anthony Freda, might be enough to symbolise the first impression. Ultimately concluding with.

09/05/2016

I've decided to start the day by writing out the first impression of the Big Issue lady (as I call it) I found on Friday (06/05/2016) in depth. I think it'll be affective to first write out the impression in detail before I craft a piece based around it. I also decide what artists I want to follow for this piece experimenting with different styles seeing which one sees through.

After the research or the synopsis, I started with the piece by first drawing out the plan or background of the piece.

I drew all of the characters separately in my sketchbook and decided to print them out and stick them on my original background. This is not a affective method as some of the colours and textures are lost through the computer. I understand this and will not use it for my final outcome.

I again decided to use text in this piece again, as the piece of St Pancras worked quite well. Ultimately I have learnt what not to do with my future pieces.

06/05/2016

I decided for today to do a tour of the town and see if I can find any first impressions to work with me through next week. I found a woman selling a big issue at somebodies memorial tree who wasn't having much success selling. Most people answered no while others made desperate attempts to pretend they didn't see her.
I made some lines studies of the people that past her as as a rough sketch and a photo:

I eventually brought a big issue from her thinking it would be helpful for later.

I found some street performers who were getting mix looks even though they were playing energetically and loud as well as funky.
I did the same procedures here as well.

I found a street lined up with groups of people handing out leaflets. The one that got the most attention was the group from Corporation in Sheffield with an energetic presentation and loud appearance. Second were the group from the Leadmill who had a similar idea except not as loud and not as many participants. I did some line studies from people who passed both of this groups and see how the react to each of them in one line.

Leadmill:

Corp group:

Lastly there was a group of religious folk handing out leaflet's about the after affect of death, who just stood there.

I also drew a homeless man who sat down not doing anything probably not getting much attention.
